Mobility Score = destinations reachable visa-free, visa on arrival, with an eTA or e-visa. The source dataset has no e-visa processing time, so all e-visas are counted, a slight over-count versus indices that only count e-visas issued within a few working days.

Visa rules can change at short notice and depend on your purpose of travel, length of stay and onward tickets. Always confirm with the destination’s embassy or the IATA Travel Centre before you book. Visa-free entry never includes travel health insurance. That’s still on you.

Making sense of your score

The mobility score counts every destination you can reach without arranging a visa in advance: visa-free entry, a visa bought on arrival, an eTA, or an e-visa. A higher number means fewer borders ask you to plan ahead, which for someone who books flights a week out is the difference between spontaneity and paperwork.

It counts doors, not what waits behind each one. Stay limits, entry conditions and the effort an e-visa takes vary country by country, and governments change the rules between our monthly updates. Treat the score as a shortlist and confirm the specific rule with the official source before you commit to a route.

One distinction catches nomads out more than any other: entering a country is not the same as being allowed to stay or work there. Visa-free access is permission to visit for a limited window. Spending months in one place, or working while you are there, usually needs a specific long-stay or nomad visa, and that is a separate question from how your passport ranks here.

Passport & visa-free travel: FAQ

You can enter without arranging a visa before you go. You still pass immigration and get a stamp, and there is almost always a stay limit, often 30 to 90 days. Visa-free is permission to visit, not an open-ended right to stay.

No. Visa-on-arrival still means getting a visa at the border, sometimes with a fee and a short form. Both let you travel without applying weeks ahead, which is why the mobility score counts them together, but on-arrival is a step visa-free skips.

No. Entering a country is not the same as being allowed to work or stay long-term there. Living somewhere for months, or earning while you are there, usually needs a specific long-stay or nomad visa, which is a separate question from visa-free entry.

We refresh the dataset monthly. Individual countries can change their rules between updates, so treat the score as a shortlist and confirm the current rule with the official government source before you book.

Indices count access differently. This score adds visa-free, visa-on-arrival, eTA and e-visa destinations together, and it counts every e-visa because the source dataset has no processing-time field, which slightly inflates the total against indices that only count e-visas issued within a few days.
