Routes that depend on your nationality

Some of Italy’s long-stay routes are open only to citizens of specific countries. Here’s where a United Arab Emirates passport stands:

  • Working Holiday / Youth Mobility Visa

Not open to United Arab Emirates passport holders

Type D long-stay visa open only to citizens of Italy's bilateral working-holiday partner countries. Age 18-35 for Australia and Canada; age 18-30 for New Zealand, South Korea, Hong Kong and Japan. Validity 12 months; work generally capped (e.g. AU: max 6 of 12 months, max 3 months same employer). Canada allows up to two participations (24 months total). Japan agreement entered into force via Law 136/2025. Partner list verified complete across official Italian consulate / Australian Embassy Rome / Farnesina sources; quotas vary by country and are not consistently published.

Visa-free isn’t insurance-free

Whatever route you take into Italy, your entry stamp never includes health cover. Many longer-stay visas also require proof of insurance before they’re granted. That part is on you, and it’s what we actually do.
