Routes that depend on your nationality

Some of Iceland’s long-stay routes are open only to citizens of specific countries. Here’s where a South Korea passport stands:

  • Working Holiday / Youth Mobility residence permit

Not open to South Korea passport holders

Granted only to citizens of the 5 bilateral-agreement partner countries (Andorra, Canada, Chile, Japan, United Kingdom), confirmed on the official Icelandic Directorate of Immigration / island.is page. Applicant must be 18-30 at time of application. Initial permit up to 1 year; Andorra/Canada/Chile/UK citizens may renew for a 2nd year, Japanese citizens may participate once only (no renewal). Fee 40,000 ISK; no fee for Japanese applicants. New Zealand is in negotiation (announced Oct 2025) but has NO live scheme as of June 2026, so it is excluded.

Visa-free isn’t insurance-free

Whatever route you take into Iceland, your entry stamp never includes health cover. Many longer-stay visas also require proof of insurance before they’re granted. That part is on you, and it’s what we actually do.
