Some of Hungary’s long-stay routes are open only to citizens of specific countries. Here’s where a United Kingdom passport stands:

  • Working Holiday Scheme (Working Holiday Visa)

    Not open to United Kingdom passport holders

    Open only to citizens of Hungary's 10 bilateral Working Holiday Scheme partners: Argentina, Australia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, Taiwan. Grants a 12-month residence permit (single grant, non-extendable) with permission to work. Age limit is typically 18-30 or 18-35 depending on the partner country (e.g. Australia/Hong Kong/Japan/South Korea/Colombia/Ecuador ~18-30; Argentina/Chile/New Zealand/Taiwan ~18-35); exact upper age and work-duration caps are set per bilateral agreement. Several partners have annual quotas (e.g. Australia 500, Hong Kong/Japan/Argentina/Chile/Colombia 200, New Zealand/South Korea/Taiwan 100).
