Some of Estonia’s long-stay routes are open only to citizens of specific countries. Here’s where a Australia passport stands:

  • Working Holiday Visa (Australia)

    You qualify — open to Australia passport holders

    Australian citizens aged 18-30. Long-stay (D) visa with work rights, valid up to 12 months. Confirmed by Estonian MFA (vm.ee).

  • Working Holiday Visa (New Zealand)

    Not open to Australia passport holders

    New Zealand citizens aged 18-30. Long-stay (D) visa with work rights, valid up to 12 months. Confirmed by Estonian MFA (vm.ee).

  • Youth Mobility / Youth Exchange Agreement (Canada)

    Not open to Australia passport holders

    Canadian citizens aged 18-35. Up to 12 months with work rights; participation under Canada's International Experience Canada (IEC) program. Cannot do two consecutive uninterrupted stays. Confirmed by Estonian MFA (vm.ee) and Estonian Embassy in Ottawa.

  • Working Holiday Visa (Japan)

    Not open to Australia passport holders

    Japanese citizens aged 18-30. Multiple-entry working holiday visa, up to 12 months; applications via Estonian Embassy in Tokyo. Confirmed by Estonian MFA (vm.ee). Secondary sources also assert a South Korea (KR) agreement, but this is NOT confirmed on the official Estonian MFA page, so KR is excluded pending official verification.

Visa-free isn’t insurance-free

Whatever route you take into Estonia, your entry stamp never includes health cover. Many longer-stay visas also require proof of insurance before they’re granted. That part is on you — and it’s what we actually do.
