Visa types & longer-stay routes for Kyrgyzstan
Rules described are written primarily for ordinary-passport "third-country" nationals (EU/EEA, US, UK, Canada, Australia, Japan, Switzerland and similar visa-exempt countries); EAEU/CIS citizens (Russia, Kazakhstan, etc.) and GCC nationals follow separate, often longer regimes.

Visa-free short stay (30 days)
30 cumulative days within any 60-day period (shortened from the previous 60-in-120 rule, effective 31 Dec 2025); registration not required within this window. Verify your nationality's exact allowance.
- Insurance
- Required. No clear mandatory entry-level health-insurance requirement was confirmed in official sources, but travel medical cover is strongly advised given Kyrgyzstan's mountainous terrain and limited healthcare; verify before travel.

- Citizens of roughly 55 visa-exempt countries (EU/EEA, US, UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Switzerland, etc.) for tourism, business or private visits.
- Requirement
- Passport valid (commonly 6+ months) and, in practice, evidence of onward travel and funds; no visa or registration for stays within the 30-in-60 limit.
- Tourist
Extended visa-free stay (90 / 60 / 180 days)
Turkey/Serbia/Ukraine/Mongolia: approx 90 days within 180. Uzbekistan: approx 60 days within 180. GCC states: up to approx 180 days within 360. Varies by nationality - verify.

Sapar e-Visa (Type J)
Up to 90 days within the 90-day validity; single- or multiple-entry. Launched on the e-Visa portal 22 Jan 2025; fee approx USD 40-70 (varies by type/urgency - verify).
- Insurance
- Required. Some sources note an application can be rejected for 'invalid insurance', so a valid travel medical policy is advisable; an explicit mandatory minimum was not confirmed in official sources - verify on the e-Visa portal.
- Good for
- Foreign nationals who are not visa-exempt, or who want a longer/multiple-entry stay, for tourism, business, visiting relatives/friends or medical treatment. The 'Sapar' visa merged the former tourist, business, mountain-tourism and private-visit categories.
- Requirement
- Online application via the official Electronic Visa portal: passport valid approx 6+ months, photo, passport scan; a Letter of Invitation (LOI) is mandatory for most applicants from 2026 (about 21 countries exempt); supporting docs in Kyrgyz or Russian.
- Work
Work visa & work permit
Tied to the employment/permit term, typically up to 1 year and renewable. A dual document is needed: the employer obtains an Employment Permit (to hire foreigners) and the worker an individual work permit (Employee Permit); the 2026 foreign-worker quota is reported at 52,000.
- Insurance
- Recommended. No confirmed statutory health-insurance condition for the visa itself; private medical cover advised and may be expected by employers - verify.
- Good for
- Foreign nationals taking up employment in Kyrgyzstan, sponsored by a local employer.
- Requirement
- Employer-sponsored job/labor contract and approved work permit; processing handled (on an interim basis through end of 2026) via the Ministry of Foreign Affairs / State Migration Service. Processing approx 2-4 weeks or longer.
- Study
Student visa (Type S)
Issued for up to 90 days for entry, then extendable up to 1 year on proof of enrolment; students may obtain a temporary residence permit reported as valid up to about 2 years and renewable for the course. Full-time study does not permit employment without a separate work visa/permit.
- Insurance
- Required. Medical insurance/health checks are commonly required by universities; confirm exact policy with the specific institution and migration authority.
- Good for
- Foreign nationals admitted to an accredited Kyrgyz higher-education institution or other registered school.
- Requirement
- Official admission/enrolment letter from a registered institution, valid passport, proof of funds; medical certificate and police clearance are commonly requested.
- Residence
Temporary Residence Permit (TRP)
Valid 1 year, renewable yearly for up to a total of approx 5 years; a residence permit holder is generally exempt from visa and separate work-permit requirements.

Visa-free isn’t insurance-free
Whatever route you take into Kyrgyzstan, your entry stamp never includes health cover. Many longer-stay visas also require proof of insurance before they’re granted. That part is on you — and it’s what we actually do.
