- Nationals who are NOT visa-exempt, travelling for tourism, business or short visits of under 90 days.
- Requirement
- Application form, passport (approx. 3 months' validity beyond departure, with blank pages), proof of purpose/accommodation, and proof of sufficient financial means; application fee approx. EUR 40 (verify).
- Business
Temporary residence permit - business / self-employment
Up to 12 months, renewable.
- Insurance
- Required. Valid health insurance for the stay is part of the application.
- Good for
- Foreign entrepreneurs and investors who register or invest in a Kosovo company; Kosovo has NO golden-visa or citizenship-by-investment scheme, so this is the standard business route.
- Requirement
- Evidence of company registration or business activity in Kosovo plus standard residence-permit documents (passport, financial means, clean record). Verify exact criteria.
- Work
Temporary residence permit - employment (with work permit)
Up to 12 months, renewable; granted for stays exceeding 3 months.
- Insurance
- Required. Valid (travel) health insurance is among the standard documents for the residence-permit application.
- Good for
- Foreign nationals with a job offer from a Kosovo-registered employer; the employer sponsors a work permit, paired with a temporary residence permit for employment.
- Requirement
- Employment contract with a registered Kosovo employer, employer-sponsored work permit, valid passport, police clearance and proof of financial means; processing roughly 1-3 months (verify).
- Study
Temporary residence permit - study
Tied to the academic programme; issued as a temporary permit of up to 12 months, renewable for the course duration.
- Insurance
- Required. Valid health insurance covering the stay is part of the standard residence-permit documentation.
- Good for
- Foreign students enrolled at a Kosovo higher-education institution, plus pupils and accompanying academics/researchers.
- Requirement
- University enrolment/admission letter, valid passport, proof of financial means and accommodation, and academic records (verify current document list).

Type D long-stay visa
Issued for stays longer than 3 months; bridges to a temporary residence permit on arrival.
- Insurance
- Required. Valid health insurance covering the whole stay is mandatory; some sources cite a minimum coverage figure around EUR 30,000 (verify the current threshold).
- Good for
- Foreign nationals intending to stay more than 90 days for work, study, research, family or medical treatment; it is the entry route used before applying for a residence permit.
- Requirement
- Type C documents plus purpose-specific evidence (job contract, university enrolment, family link, etc.); application fee approx. EUR 80, with some exemptions (e.g. children under 6, students) (verify).

Temporary residence permit - family reunification
Up to 12 months, renewable; counts toward the 5-year track to permanent residence.
- Insurance
- Required. Health insurance is among the standard documents for the residence-permit file.
- Good for
- Spouses, minor children and certain dependants of Kosovo citizens or of foreigners holding a Kosovo residence permit.
- Requirement
- Proof of family relationship (marriage/birth certificates) and the sponsor's status; sponsors generally must have a settled basis in Kosovo (verify residency duration condition).

- Recommended. No specific visa-stage insurance threshold is documented for this status, but health cover remains advisable; confirm current requirements.

- Long-term residents who have held temporary residence continuously, as a settlement/immigration status under the Law on Foreigners (Law No. 06/L-036).

- Five years of continuous temporary residence in Kosovo (shorter, e.g. 3 years, for spouses of Kosovo citizens or permanent residents); absences of 6-10 months do not break continuity (verify).
